How to Convert an Old Driveway into a Decorative Covercrete Driveway with Flecks
Upgrading an old, tired driveway doesn’t always require ripping it out and starting again. With the right preparation and materials, an existing concrete driveway can be transformed into a modern, decorative Covercrete finish with stylish flecks. Below is a step-by-step look at the process from start to finish, as shown in the images included.
Step 1: Surface Preparation

The process begins by grinding the existing concrete surface. This crucial step removes surface contaminants, old coatings, and smooth finishes, creating a clean and textured base for the new system to bond properly.

Step 2: Crack Treatment
Any existing cracks in the concrete are carefully treated and repaired. Addressing cracks early helps prevent them from reflecting through the new decorative coating later on.

Step 3: Polymer Application
Once the crack repairs have cured for a minimum of 12 hours, one coat of polymer is applied. This acts as a bonding layer, improving adhesion and durability of the Covercrete system.

Step 4 & 5: Stylepave Coats
Next, the first coat of Stylepave is applied, followed by a second coat. These layers build up the decorative finish, add strength, and create a consistent base colour.

Step 6: Decorative Flecks
Decorative flecks are then broadcast onto the surface, adding texture, visual depth, and a modern, slip-resistant finish.
Step 7: Sealing
Finally, two coats of acrylic sealer are applied to protect the surface, enhance colour, and ensure long-lasting performance.

The result is a durable, eye-catching driveway that looks brand new—without the cost of full replacement.
